A Biblical Manhood Field Manual
What does it mean to be a man? It's a simple question, yet for many men, it is one of the hardest to answer.
Consider these questions: When did you become a man? How did you know? Was it when you got your first job? Moved out on your own? Got married? Became a father?
Most men have never seriously considered these questions. When asked, they're often met with silence, uncertainty, or vague answers. I understand because I was there too.
For years, I assumed that doing "manly" things made me a man. I worked hard. I paid bills. I took responsibility. Yet beneath the surface, I had never stopped to ask what God actually says about manhood. That reality confronted me when I was 30 years old.
My wife and I were sitting in a doctor's office, moments away from finding out the sex of our first child. As we waited, I found myself silently praying for a daughter. Not because I didn't want a son, but because the thought of raising one terrified me. For the first time in my life, I realized I didn't know what it truly meant to be a man. And if I didn't know, how could I possibly teach a son?
God, in His wisdom, answered that prayer differently than I had hoped.
On October 31, 2013, my son was born.
Looking back, I can see that was the moment God began a deeper work in my life. It was the moment I started intentionally pursuing biblical manhood—not by looking to culture, personal feelings, or popular opinion, but by looking to God's Word.
Since then, I've discovered that my story is not unique.
Men everywhere are asking the same questions. They feel the same pressures, fears, doubts, and insecurities. They want to lead their families well. They want to honor Christ. They want to know what it means to live with strength, conviction, courage, and purpose. Yet many have never been shown a biblical vision of manhood.
This book is not an exhaustive treatment of the subject. Entire libraries could be written on what Scripture teaches about being a man.
But my prayer is that these pages will serve as a starting point—a challenge to reject the world's shallow definitions of masculinity and pursue God's design instead.
If you are tired of drifting, tired of confusion, and ready to become the man God created and redeemed you to be, then this book is for you.
The journey to biblical manhood begins with a simple question:
What does God say a man should be?
Let's find out together.
