Why Jesus?

In today’s culture, more and more men are asking the question, “Why Jesus?” The truth is, many don’t believe they need Jesus, and they view the church as an archaic relic of the past—no longer relevant or necessary.

At The Forge, I am passionate about answering those very questions. I want to help men discover the truth about God through the Bible, recognize their need for Jesus, and understand why they were created.

In the next few paragraphs, I’ll give you a clear overview of God’s plan as revealed in the Bible, and show how you can have a restored relationship with God through Jesus.

In the Beginning

In the beginning, God created everything—and I mean everything. The cosmos, water, trees, insects, and even time itself came into existence by the Word of God. Yet the crown of His creation was humanity. He made us with a very special and unique purpose: to enjoy a relationship with Him.

The Bible tells us that God created us “in His image.” No other part of creation received this honor. This means that while we are not God, we do share some of His attributes—we reflect Him in meaningful ways.

God blessed the first humans to be fruitful and multiply. Our first parents, Adam and Eve, enjoyed a perfect and deeply intimate relationship with God and with each other. All of creation was united in a beautiful harmony of love, and humanity was morally pure.

The Fall

But then something tragic happened. Our first parents were deceived. Satan tempted them with a great lie: rebel against God, violate His commands, dethrone Him, and become gods themselves. This lie struck at the very heart of Adam and Eve. No longer content to live in trust and dependence on God, they chose to decide for themselves what was right and wrong.

At that moment, all of creation broke. The perfect relationship between God and humanity was severed. God had warned them that rebellion would result in death. Sin entered the world like a poison that spread into the heart and soul of every person. Spiritual death came immediately, and physical death followed (Genesis 3).

According to the Bible, all of humanity is now enslaved to sin and sins willingly (John 8:34). This poison has damaged not only our relationship with God but also our relationships with one another. Shame, guilt, jealousy, deceit, lust, revenge, hatred, and countless other evils now plague human life.

God’s Promise of Rescue

But that is not the end of the story. God is good and loving. Even in the moment of humanity’s tragic rebellion, He made a promise: He would fix what was broken. He would send a Rescuer who would heal humanity and all creation from the poison of sin and restore our relationship with God.

The entire Bible points forward to this coming Savior. Through its stories, prophecies, and shadows, we see glimpses of the One who would come—Jesus Christ.

Jesus: Our Rescuer

When Jesus came to earth on His rescue mission, it was not in the way anyone expected. He was born to a virgin named Mary. Fully human and fully God, He was free from the sin nature that plagues the rest of us. Though He was the God of the universe, He was born in a humble feeding trough rather than a palace. Even His name was full of meaning: Jesus means “God saves.”

Jesus lived a perfect life—the only sinless life ever lived. He loved God the Father perfectly and obeyed every command of God without fail. He lived the life we were created and commanded to live. Yet that perfect life led Him to a dark and cruel death—a death that had been part of God’s redemptive plan from the beginning.

Jesus was crucified on a cross for the sins of all who would repent and believe in Him. As He hung there, He took upon Himself the full wrath of God the Father against sin—the penalty that we deserved. In exchange, He offers us His perfect righteousness.

But death could not hold Him. After three days, Jesus rose from the dead victorious. Through His resurrection, He defeated death, canceled the debt of sin, and proved that He is exactly who He claimed to be—God in the flesh.

Because of what Jesus has done, God the Father can now look upon everyone who places their faith in Christ and welcome them back as His children. The way back into a right relationship with God is found in Jesus Christ alone. It is through faith in who He is and what He has done that this relationship becomes possible.

If you repent of your sins, confess that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. You will be decalred justified in God’s sight.

Adopted into God’s Family

But there’s more! Once you trust in Jesus Christ, you are adopted into God’s family. God the Father now looks upon you with the same love He has for Jesus, and Jesus loves you with the same love He has for the Father. It is an amazing thing to be loved like this.

Out of that love, God has also given us the church until Jesus returns.

It is my prayer that you would enter into a saving relationship with God through Jesus Christ and experience His perfect, never-ending love.
